Good warm sunny weather, good competition, good camaraderie and good food.
They were the main ingredients that made thethird annual Oceanside Open Doubles Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Arrowsmith Tennis Club, a success.
It was held on Saturday at Springwood Park tennis courts.
“It was great,” said organizer Don Lefler. “We had a good turnout and everyone had fun.”
The unusual compass draw format gave the men’s and ladies doubles teams a lot of playing time.
In the women’s doubles, ATC’s Ada Sarsiat and Jill Trelawny won the overall title after a tough final against Erica Monderman and Liz Bang. The match was decided via a tiebreaker.
The West winners were Renee Guenette and Kiki Aubin, the Southeast winners Donna McKee and Tanya Bruk, and Southwest winners, Maeva Lowen and Marie Aylward.
In the men’s doubles, Bill Majercisk and Loren Guenette beat Brad McArthur and Rob Deleau to top the East finals and claimed the overall championships.
The West winners were John Hylton-Foster and Clyde Nilsson, the Southeast went to Tony Wong and Abhi Pabanna and the Southwest was conquered by David Sarsiat and Don Lefler.
The next tournament will be the Arrowsmith Tennis Club Mixed Doubles that will take place on July 29.
