Ogopogos toppled Queensland Lion Masters of Brisbane 2-1 in men’s soccer medal-round at the World Masters Games in Torino, Italy.

The Westlake Tire/Arrowhead Electric Ogopogos toppled Queensland Lion Masters of Brisbane 2-1 in men’s soccer medal-round action Wednesday at the World Masters Games in Torino, Italy.

After falling behind 1-0 in the fifth minute, the Ogopogos had their work cut out for them against the well-polished passing Australians.

The Ogopogos reorganized and came out re-charged at the beginning of the second half, taking away Australia’s passing game, winning several 50/50 balls and getting more shots to the net.

Striker Mark Wasylyk beat the keeper at the corner of the net and as he shot at the open corner, pulled his hamstring and unfortunately hit the side of the net with the ball.

The Ogopogos levelled the score on a beautiful corner by midfielder Jim Sparrow.

Guest player Simon Pendlebury, from central defence courageously went up the flank, cutting towards the net and pulling the Aussie defence and keeper out of position. He then put the ball in front of the net and in the ensuing chaos, the ball deflected off an Australian player and in for the winner.

The Ogopogos are down to 11 healthy players with possibly one injured sub able to play the next two medal-rounds games.
