The Okanagan Rockets will make an appearance at the Calgary Mac’s Midget Tournament at Christmas for a sixth consecutive season.
The 35th annual tournament, to be held Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, will feature 25 of the top midget teams from Western Canada, the United States, and the world.
In 2011, Russia Severtal/Locomotiv claimed the championship with a 5-0 win over the UFA Bisons on New Year’s day. The Rockets went 1-2-1 in their four round robin games.
“Returning to the Mac’s is a huge source of pride for our group,” said Rockets GM David Michaud. “Annually it goes down as one of the top experiences for our players, and it’s a great chance for us face some tremendous competition and see how we shape up against them. We are excited to get going and be a part of this great tradition.”
The Rockets will fly out on Christmas Day and the tournament will begin on Boxing Day.
This weekend, Okanagan will play host to the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
Games will be played at CNC at 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
The Rockets (10-2-2) are third in the BCMML, four points back of Cariboo and five behind the league-leading Vancouver Northwest Giants.
