Vernon swimmers helped the Okanagan-Similkameen (Zone 5) pocket 189 medals and finish fifth out of 13 zones at the B.C. Seniors Games in the West Kootenay cities of Castlegar, Nelson and Trail.
Marion Roberts earned four gold medals, three silver and one bronze, while Mira Grypink struck two gold and Helen Abrahamse garnered one gold, one silver and two bronze. All three competed in the women’s 75-79 age group.
Both the zone 5 men’s 55+ and 60+ soccer teams uncovered gold, as previously reported in The Morning Star.
Bob Johnston grabbed silver and two bronze medals in men’s 60-64 cycling, while Lois Ricard bagged a silver in women’s 80+ badminton.
Don Myrfield took home a gold medal in horseshoes, while Bill Glover helped Zone 5 with a bronze in men’s 65-69 track and field (1,500m).
Pat McKee picked up a silver in men’s 60-64 singles tennis, while Frances Langton collected a bronze in women’s 75-79 singles.
In 60-64 mixed doubles tennis, it was Carol Jenkins and Laurie Lyons winning gold.
The 2012 Games are Aug. 21-25 in Burnaby.
