On Wednesday night at the River Rock Hotel in Richmond, the Olympic View teaching pro was named winner of the PGA of B.C.’s player of the year award. The announcement comes less than two months after Scutt captured the PGA of BC championship title at Royal Colwood Golf Club.
He finished second on the PGA of BC Order of Merit behind Phil Jonas of Hazelmere Country Club, and was first on the Vancouver Island Order of Merit, ahead of clubmate Kevin Maxwell.
Maxwell had the edge last week, however, as he won the Vancouver Island Pro Tour Championship at Arbutus Ridge and Gorge Vale. He shot a tournament best 64 on the second day of play to pair up with a 70 for a 134 and a seven-stroke victory over first round leader Ben Griffin (69-72). Scutt finished in a tie for third at 143 (70-73) with Lance McCullough and Lindsay Bernekevitch.
Points accrued with the win were not enough to allow Maxwell to catch Scutt on the Order of Merit, however, as the latter outpointed his fellow Olympic View pro 40.91 to 34.50.
