The Oceanside Running Club Association (ORCA) didn’t take long to wear off those feasts as team members took part in two events over the Thanksgiving weekend.
In Victoria, there were 10 ORCA members in total running in the Goodlife Marathon, half marathon and eight km race. Janet Manson completed her first marathon with a time of four hours, 24 minutes and 48 seconds.
Elizabeth Manson finished with a time of 1:38:55 in the half marathon. Sarah Larsen (1:43:51), Christine Rivers (2:07:53) and Lindsey Allen (2:13:57) rounded out the ORCA team running in the half marathon.
In the eight km race, Terry Riggins finished second place in his division with a time of 35:33. Heather Beatty (37:14) finished third in her division, Jill Davies (47:32) finished second in her division, Jim McLean (50:46) finished second in his division and Melanie Peake finished with a time of 40:46.
• In Kelowna, the BMO half marathon saw six ORCA runners take to the course. Peter Poland, who finished with a time of 1:31:41, was originally a second place finish but was awarded first after the winner was disqualified for not completing the course.
Deb Poland finished fifth, with a time of 1:55:38. Barb Low (2:14:32), Dean Loewen (2:14:32), Marueen Kenyon (2:39:32) and Rita Loewen (2:39:32) were the remaining ORCA members to compete in Kelowna.
