The Cowichan Outlaws came up just short against a motivated Bays United team last Sunday.
Bays earned their first win of the Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association season by edging Cowichan 1-0 on the Williams Turf.
“The girls played quite well,” Cowichan coach Neall Rowlings said. “We just didn’t want it as bad as Bays did.”
The team has experienced a resurgence in training and Rowlings likes the direction the Outlaws are going in.
“We have been working hard at practice and will just keep going through the motions until it clicks,” he said. “Our defence has done an exceptional job keeping the games close.
“Even though we lost 1-0, the back line was solid and I was happy to see Jade Soluk back out on the field. Not having Samantha Walker there is hard. She’s one of those players you don’t notice till she’s gone, then you realize how much intensity she brings to the field.”
Cowichan will be at home again this Sunday, playing host to Gorge at noon.
“Gorge beat us 2-1 last round, but it was on grass,” Rowlings pointed out. “This will be a very different match, and I guarantee the Outlaws will be hungry for revenge.”
