Overtime loss ends Rams season

Langley finishes the year with a 6-4 record in regular season

It was a nail-biter overtime win that brought the Langley Rams’ football season to an end on Sunday in Kelowna.

The Okanagan Sun won a classic overtime play-off game 26-23 in a tight defensive battle with the Langley Rams.

The Sun hosted the B.C. Football Conference semifinal match at the Apple Bowl.

The Sun needed its defense to perform as it was able to muster little offensively against a Rams defense that has been formidable all season long.

The Sun started with a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and led 20-6 at halftime.

Langley did manage a  touchdown during the third quarter. They added 10 more points in the fourth quarter and they went on a 17-0 run to move ahead 23-20 late. Despite a really strong effort they couldn’t get the lead.

Rams did get a field goal with 4:13 to play in regulation to bring the teams even again.

Langley quarterback Tommy Robertson completed four of 10 passes; two of his completions were for touchdowns to Jay Jay Jackson and Jules Kehler.

Sun player Raquille Cespedes was in lockdown mode all day, earning him the defensive player of the week by BC Football Conference. Additionally, he was called on in certain special team situations to punt the ball and without his play his team wouldn’t be moving on.

With a minute to go and the game tied 23-23, and the Sun facing third down and 10 at their own 20-yard line, Cespedes ran for a first down—by a matter of inches—to help his club retain possession and force overtime.

Langley finished the regular season third in the BCFC with a 6-4 record.
