The Kelowna Owls will have the amicable surroundings of the CNC turf on their side as the B.C. high school football playoffs kick off this weekend.
At 2 p.m. on Saturday, the hometown Owls will battle the Notre Dame Jugglers in the opening round of the post-season.
KSS (4-3) finished fourth in the Eastern Conference, while Notre Dame was fifth in the west at 3-4.
The winner will move on to the quarterfinal round next weekend against the unbeaten Mt. Douglas Rams (7-0).
KSS closed out the regular season last weekend at home with a 28-0 loss to Lord Tweedsmuir.
Boucherie @ New Westminster
The Mt. Boucherie Bears will visit the New Westminster Hyacks Friday in a first-round playoff matchup. Kick off is 7:30 p.m.
The Bears (3-4) finished fifth in the Eastern Conference, while the Hyacks (4-3) were fourth in the Western Conference.
“(New West) runs a lot of misdirection on offence, so that’ll be our challenge to find ways to stop it,” said Bears’ assistant coach Rick Nelson. “If we can shut their offence down, then we feel our offence can pound the ball against them.
“We feel good about our chances and feel like we’ve got a shot.”
The winner will go on to face No. 1 Terry Fox in the quarters.
W.J. Mouat 49 Rutland 20
The Rutland Voodoos closed out their 2014 season Friday night in Kelowna with a 49-20 loss to Abbotsford’s Mouat Hawks.
Cory McCoy had another big game for the Voodoos with 76 yards rushing along with two touchdown catches and 102 yards receiving. He added a third major on a 30-yard interception return.
The Voodoos closed out the season in the Eastern Conference with a 1-6 record.
“It was a turbulent year in the AAA, but the boys played tough week in and week out,” said Voodoos’ head coach Peter McCall.
