After taking home the gold at the Island Championships, the Pacific Christian Secondary (PCS) Senior Girls basketball team is gearing up for the AA Provincial Championships.

The PCS Pacers – now ranked fourth in B.C. – battled through the Island Championships over the long weekend. First, the girls faced Kwalikum Secondary School and beat them 87-26. Then, in the semi-finals, PCS dominated the team from Highlands Secondary with a 100-44 win.

The Island Championship finals took place on Feb. 15 at Shawnigan Lake School. After a close game, the PCS Senior Girls beat Lambrick Park Secondary 67-60. Both teams qualified for the AA provincials which take place at the Langley Event Centre from Feb. 26 to 29.

“Our intense defence now complements our balanced offensive attack, but our true strength is that we operate as a family,” said coach Jen Stewart.

Two PCS athletes were highlighted for their skill on the court at Islands; Jenna de Greeff was named an AA Island All-Star and Adaiah Tupas-Singh was crowned the AA Island MVP.

After a successful season with 24 wins and five losses – including league wins over AAAA schools Claremont Secondary, Oak Bay High School, Royal Bay Secondary School and Belmont Secondary School – and a first-time gold at the 49th annual Victoria Police Tournament, the Pacers have set their sights on dominating at provincials.

In the first round on Feb. 26, PCS will play Seycove Secondary, ranked 13th, and Lambrick Park, ranked eighth, will play the ninth-ranked team – Notre Dame Regional Secondary School.
