The Pacific Cycling Centre accepting applications from Greater Victoria youth cyclists for its 2014-2015 development program.

The 2014-2015 program tries to identify a group of athletes who have the potential to progress to elite status, and compete in World Cups, World Championships and Olympic Games in the next two quadrennials.

PCC will kick start the 2015 season with supervised training sessions, every Saturday and Sunday, starting Saturday November 1. Group rides are coached sessions with the aim to develop and improve technical riding such as pace line, climbing, team and individual time trailing and sprinting, while also working on endurance and boosting aerobic capacity.

Men and women in U17 to U19 categories will be identified, as will those in U23, with the objective to channel athletes into national team programs and to maintain a permanent, high-performance training group of national team and pre-national team athletes at the Pacific Cycling Centre, with the appropriate coaching and support system.

“Having a full development program that includes coaching, racing, and equipment creates a very exciting opportunity for Canadian cyclists,” says PCC head coach, Houshang Amiri. “Over the past few years most of sport funding has gone to the top elite level. We were desperate to have a program like this to support future Canadian champions systemically and continuously.”

The weekly indoor dynamic strength gym sessions start on Friday, Nov. 7 with a focus on full body flexibility, core strength and stability, and dynamic strength. The sessions will progress to developing power and anaerobic capacity.

Deadline to apply for the program is November 3, 2014. Interested athletes can send a race CV and cover letter to info@pacificcyclingcentre.ca

PCC also runs a number of camps (road and track) during the off-season: visit www.pacificcyclingcentre.ca for camp details and to register.
