Paddle Pushers win bronze at regatta

Port Alberni’s Paddle Pushers edged crosstown rivals the Ladies of the Lake at the Sproat Lake Women’s Dragon Boat Regatta.

Two Port Alberni teams battled for top spot in the bronze category at the Sproat Lake Women’s Dragon Boat Regatta, Sunday at the lake.

Nine teams from  Nanaimo, Comox Valley, Central Island and Port Alberni competed in the annual event.

The rain held off on Sunday until the last of the ribbons was handed out.

The Comox Valley Dragonflies came in first in the gold category with a total time of 4:38.46. in second was Stroke of Luck from Nanaimo (4:38.91) and in third were the Dover Bay Wave Breakers (4:47.94).

In the silver category the Comox Valley Blazing Paddles came in first with a total time of 4:51.25, followed by the Welly Wave Riders from Wellington (4:51.85) and in third Abreast of Life from Central Island in third (4:55.25).

In the bronze category, Port Alberni’s Paddle Pushers edged crosstown rivals the Ladies of the Lake, crossing the finish line first in a time of 5:02.62. Ladies of the Lake were four seconds back at 5:06.69.

The Flying Dragons from the Comox Valley finished third.
