The Canada Winter Games are under way in Prince George, B.C., and one local snowboarder is looking to make her mark and find her way to the podium.

Jacqueline Monette-Warren, a 17-year-old from Parksville who trains out of Whistler, will be representing team BC during the snowboard portion of the Canada Winter Games, which takes place on February 27.

A member of the BC snowboard development team, Monette-Warren won an event up on Mount Washington earlier this month before the mountain closed down for the remainder of the winter due to a lack of snow.

Last year she also finished in first place in her slope style event at the BC provincials and her goal is to “at least finish in the top five” at the Canada Winter Games.

Team BC currently sits 4th in the medal standings with 17 total medals (5 Gold, 6 Silver and 6 Bronze).

In total, there are more than 2,400 athletes taking part in the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, the first city in British Columbia to host the winter edition of the Canada Games.
