From the greens comes word that thunder, lightening and torrential rains could not stop the energy level shown in the final game of the three day Gold Bowl Triples Lawn Bowling Tournament in Nanaimo last Sunday.
Rain delays halted the action for at least 45 minutes while players waited for the weather to clear. Eventually, Nanaimo’s more experienced team skipped by Rick Quibell with Mary Broughton as lead and Vern Greenhill as third came up the winner over the up and coming tenderfoot team from Parksville.
Parksville skip Ken Bucyk was very pleased with his front end shot makers by lead Carol Bucyk and third Rick Dolley and made the point “to have gotten this far this early in our team’s career was a major accomplishment.”
The Gold Bowl has been one of the feature events of Nanaimo’s lawn bowling calendar since 1990 and was designed to attract the more competitive bowlers from the Victoria and Greater Vancouver area as well as Vancouver Island by offering much bigger money prizes.
Thirty-two teams entered this year’s tourney which began on the Friday night and concluded Sunday afternoon.
GAME ON
