The Parksville Royals celebrated Canada Day with a pair of wins against the Mid-Island Pirates in B.C. Premier League Baseball action at Springwood Park.
Donning brand-new red uniforms, the Royals scored 10-1 and 5-1 victoria in front of approximately 45 spectators.
The Royals, sparked by Anson McGorman, whose pitches were clocked at more than 90 miles per hour, sank the Pirates in Game 1. He had four strong innings, striking out nine batters and allowing only one hit and one run to earn the win on the mound. Breydan Riecker came in relief to finish the job.
Thomas Plant got the Royals on the board when he ripped a double that plated three runs. In the second inning, the Royals extended the lead with another three runs, led by Ryan Deagle and Max Kolopenuk, who each had two RBIs.

In the second game, the Royals took a 4-0 lead in the first three innings and were never threatened. Cam Goodman was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and a run over four innings, striking out three and walking one. Breandan McLaughlin, Trevor Carter, and Ethan Dean all put in work in relief to help preserve the win.
Deagle went 2-for-3 at the place to lead the Royals on offence.
The Royals will next face the Victoria Eagles in a doubleheader Saturday, July 3 at Springwood, with first game to take place at noon and the next at 2:30 p.m.
Then on Sunday, July 4, the Royals hit the road and head to Victoria to take on the Mariners in a doubleheader at Layritz Park.
