The North Okanagan’s three main arenas were a hive of activity Friday with 28 teams competing in four divisions at the B.C. Pee Wee Box Lacrosse Championships.
Tournament host North Okanagan Legends have three teams in action at Wesbild Centre, Civic Arena and Nor-Val Sports Centre in Armstrong. The A2 squad fell 9-4 to Richmond in its Friday opener, and 13-4 to Nanaimo later in the day.
“We weren’t pumped up enough at the start and they got the first goal and we fell behind,” said Legends’ Jaxson Cummings, 12, who stripped a Richmond runner and hustled full-court to record his team’s third goal.
“It’s really challenging because you really want to win (at home).”
Added A2 Legends’ head coach Harold Mann: “It’s three weeks between games here, so we were showing a little bit of rust today. Every team that’s here has earned its way to provincials, and rightfully so. Very talented kids.”
In other Friday action, the C Legends got off to a solid start, icing Juan de Fuca 3-1 before falling 3-2 to Abbotsford.
In the B division, North Okanagan bowed 8-1 to Coquitlam and 10-5 to North Shore.
Medal and placement games go today at Wesbild and Civic.
