The last hockey weekend of the hockey season was an eventful one at the North Thompson Sportsplex. The Clearwater Peewee Ice Hawks teams, both 1 and 2, held the Peewee Okanagan Championships.
The tournament included the best of the region. The teams were from Kelowna, West Kelowna, Salmon Arm, One Hundred Mile House and both local Peewee Ice Hawks 1 and 2 teams.
The participation of the local teams was decided in last weekend’s division playoffs that featured them in the final game ensuring their play for the championship tournament with a one goal difference.
The action began on March 15 at 1:45 p.m. with the Clearwater 2 team against Salmon Arm. The crowds for both teams were vocal and the play was intense.
The teams were so skilled with a full year of development behind them that the play was entertaining to watch.

The next game showed the peewee Ice Hawks 1 team go up against Kelowna. Another close and fierce game ensued. Most games during the weekend were well matched with no clear idea as to who may come out on top until the last moment before the buzzer. The Clearwater Ice Hawks 1 team made the semi-final playoff game, and although it went to overtime, the locals were not victorious this time.
The final game was between Kelowna and West Kelowna with a score ending at 4-3 and a victorious Kelowna team. Another nail-biter for the teams involved.
The sportsplex was a super busy place all weekend for this last ice time, with the Curling Club wind-up, Over 50 Hockey, two adult drop-in hockey practices, Novice and Pre-novice practices and the final Family skating of the season sponsored by the District of Clearwater, as well as the Pee Wee Championships.
What a great season to all of the teams involved and the local fans look forward to another year of amazing displays of talent and skill this fall.
