The Winfield Bruins came to Sicamous for an afternoon game on Dec. 10, the first meeting between the two teams this season.
Sicamous visited the penalty box quite a few times this game, something they need to work on.
Winfield opened the scoring near the end of the first period, which was the only goal in the first two periods. The second was very exciting and Tyler Kruger was great in the Sicamous net. Sicamous took two penalties at the start of the third and killed them off. Winfield took a 2-0 lead with a goal at 14:30 of the third. Sicamous then took another two penalties; the last one was a huge body-checking penalty for Haydn Gjaltema. After killing those penalties off – which has been working well for Sicamous – they were fired up and, with less than 10 minutes to go, Kohen Martin scored, assisted by Haydn Gjaltema and Chloey Martin. A second goal was scored on a nice shot by Haydn Gjaltema, assisted by Liam Sutherland who made a sweet pass. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
The Predators travelled to Vernon the next day to play the Blues in the Wesbild Center, which was a nice treat. The first two periods were great and both goalies made some amazing saves; Tyler Kruger was definitely doing his job. The first period saw Vernon score at 16:30 on a power play. Sicamous tied the game 1-1 at 17:43 of the second, with a goal scored by Haydn Gjaltema with a nice wrist shot from the top of the circles through the five hole. The Blues took the lead at 7:23 in the second, and took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Sicamous got into penalty trouble on a questionable call and the Vernon team took a 3-1 lead on a five-on-three power play. Vernon would score twice more before the end of the third period and take the win 5-1.
The Predators now have three wins, five losses and one tie.
Next Games: Saturday, Dec. 17 at North Okanagan in Armstrong, and Sunday, Dec. 18 at Salmon Arm 1.
