vballDespite a loss to the visiting Kelowna Secondary Owls in the gold medal round of a home volleyball tournament Saturday, coach Rob Gunning is proud of how the Pen High Lakers senior ladies played.
“(KSS) are big, they’re solid, they pass well and they serve tough, so overall I was super happy with our effort. I thought we played really well as a team, and that’s all you can do, so we’ve got lots to be proud of today,” said Gunning.
They came within a few points in every set, but in the end, it was the Owls taking the game in straight sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22.

“We played some teams a lot bigger than us, and I think we really fought hard,” said Senior Laker Chloe Brydon. “At the end of the last set there we gave in a little bit, but overall I think we played our hardest all day.”
The four-team tournament also featured the Mount Boucherie Bears and Rutland Senior Secondary Voodoos senior girls, who played for bronze. The Bears took that game in straight sets, 25-20, 25-13, 25-19.
