Peninsula Baseball and Softball Association’s Midget baseball team, Peninsula 2, took the Ladysmith Canadians down to the final inning Sunday — but came up short in a 13-12 final.
Peninsula (7-6-3 in league play this season) fought back in the fifth and sixth innings and at one point held a 12-11 lead against the Canadians (8-3-1).
Despite some solid pitching from Peninsula in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, Ladysmith scored two runs to earn the victory.
Rotary’s Field of Dreams in North Saanich hosted a double header Sunday. Ladysmith took on Peninsula 1 (6-7-2) in the later match. The locals got the upper hand in that one, winning 10-0.
Island Midget baseball playoffs begin in the middle of June.
