The Penticton bantam recreation BPO Elks came first in the 24-team Kamloops Winter Classic tournament Dec. 1 to 3.
Goaltender Trent Ashby earned the shutout in the opening game with a 9-0 win over Quesnel.
“Trent Ashby played stellar in net all weekend and getting a shutout in our first game to start the weekend off with a bang,” said team manager Margot Heintz.
The goalscoring was spread around as Liam Whyte, Marlo Spence, Connor Stephens, Brennen Lockwood, Luke MacIntyre, Carson Drobe, Grady Lancaster, Isaac Watt, Austin Tongue all had singles.
Penticton then defeated Williams Lake 9-3 with Drobe and Whyte having five point games, each earning a hat trick and two assists. MacIntyre scored two goals and Watt also contributed a goal.
To finish off the preliminary round, Penticton beat West Kelowna 4-2. Drobe had two goals and Richter Heintz and Whyte each scored a goal.
The semi-final match up against Salmon Arm was another display of offensive firepower for Penticton who won 11-4. Drobe had a four point game with two goals and two assists. Whyte also had a four point outing with a goal and three assists. MacIntyre, Stephens and Spence scored two goals each for Penticton while Heintz and Watt added singles.
Penticton faced Vernon in the final and won 5-2. Goals were scored by Spence, MacIntyre, Drobe, Heinz and Lancaster.
