The City of Penticton has issued a clarification on the requirement for masks in recreation facilities.
Masks will be required to be worn by everyone 12-years and older in the city’s recreation facilities, such as the community centre gym, McLaren Arena and the pool.
The city has issued a clarification that a mask or face covering is a medical or non-medical mask that covers the nose and mouth, and that face shields are not a substitute since they have an opening below the mouth.

People who cannot wear a mask, or who cannot put on or remove a mask without assistance are exempt, and the city notes that due to psychological, behavioural or health conditions or impairments, a person may be unable to wear a mask.
According to the city’s clarification release, masks may be removed temporarily while participating in a sport or fitness activity, such as users of the fitness room removing their masks while undertaking high-intensity static activities. The city advises that people continue to wear their mask in the fitness room while engaged in lower intensity activities.
