It was a battle of the equines in the gold medal game of last weekend’s Penticton Minor Hockey Association Pee Wee Recreation Tournament.
In the end, it was the Penticton Lions Club Broncos who came out on top with a 6-4 win over the Penticton Skaha Ford Mustangs to capture the banner.
A total of 12 teams from Kelowna, Coquitlam, Kamloops, Chilliwack, Langley and West Kelowna along with a third local entry, the Penticton Okanagan Hockey Group Snipers, took part in the three-day event.

The Snipers finished in the sixth spot while the Kamloops Ice Hawks, Coquitlam Chiefs and Kelowna Bulldogs finished third through fifth to round out the top six places.
“The tournament was a huge success thanks to a great group of parents who volunteered their time,” said tourney organizer Christina Forbes, whose daughter was also a member of the gold medal team. “Organizing a tournament takes so much work and when it all comes together and everyone enjoys themselves, it makes all of that work worthwhile.”
Coach Colin Powell, of the runner up Mustangs, had nothing but good things to say about the event as well.

“It was a great tournament for the 12 teams that participated in it, the volunteers as well. Everybody stepped up and made it a great event,” said Powell, who congratulated both finalist teams. “It was really cool to see two of three local teams involved in the final. It says a lot for our organization as well as the skill level of our players.
“It was just a really good thing for minor hockey and our community.”
