The Penticton Vees earned their 11th victory of the year in a tight 3-2 victory against the Cranbrook Bucks Saturday, April 24 at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Jacob Quillan was the game’s first star, as he scored his fourth game winning goal of the season and added a highlight reel assist.
Kaeden Lane was in goal for the Vees, making 25 saves on 27 shots.
Tyler Ho opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the year less than five minutes into the game. Less than five minutes later the Vees went up 2-0 after Quillian made a pass to Liam Malmquist, who put the puck home for his fifth of the year.
The second period saw the Bucks make their way back with two goals from Nik Sombrowski to tie the game at two heading into the third period.
But just over two minutes into the final frame, Quillan capped off his night by scoring what would be the game winner. Ben Wozney had his slot shot stopped before Quillan buried the rebound for his seventh of the year to send the Vees in front by a 3-2 score early in the final period.
Lane did some of his best work in the Vees crease for the remainder of the third, stopping all seven shots he faced.
The Vees’ goalie recorded his ninth win of the season Saturday, while Jay Thomson made 21 saves on 24 shots in his third loss of the season for the Bucks.
The Vees (11-1-0-1) return to action on Monday night with their 14th game of the season as they face off against the Trail Smoke Eaters (5-6-0-0) for the seventh time this season at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. with the game broadcast live on EZ Rock AM 800 as well as on HockeyTV.com and Shaw Spotlight beginning with the pre-game show at 6:40 PM with the Voice of the Vees, Trevor Miller.
