Perfect weekend for Junior Blaze

Seven RBIs for Brendan Winning help Langley Junior Blaze go perfect 4-0

It was a perfect weekend for the Langley Junior Blaze.

The Blaze baseball club swept a pair of doubleheaders, scoring a combined 37 runs as they improved to 23-11 in the BC Junior Premier Baseball League.

Langley won 9-2 and 10-0 on Saturday in Victoria against the Junior Mariners before returning to Langley and knocking off the North Delta Junior Blue Jays 9-5 and 9-3 at McLeod Athletic Park.

In Saturday’s opener, Joshua Mirecki was three outs away from a shutout before Victoria finally got on the board. He finished with four strikeouts in the 9-2 victory.

Offensively, Brendan Winning led the way with a double and three RBIs while Alex Wright knocked in a pair of runs.

Terrell Rogers took to the mound in game two and struck out six while allowing just two hits in the 10-0 shut-out win.

Winning and Wright again led the way with two RBIs apiece.

Langley trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning in Sunday’s opener versus North Delta, but struck for two that inning and then three more the next to take the lead for good.

Connor Chorpita led the offence with three RBIs while Tommy Kreitz and Winning drove in two runs apiece.

Samson Beck struck out six over five innings for the win.

And the weekend concluded with a 9-3 win in game two on Sunday. Russell Young had a two-run triple to pace the offence while Chorpita, Brandon Nicoll, Owen Halstrom and Winning had an RBI apiece.

With his seven RBIs over the four-game span, Winning has climbed to second in the BCJPBL in that category with 23, two back of the league lead.

Ryan Beitel struck out four in the victory.

Langley will look for a fifth straight win when they host the Abbotsford Junior Cardinals on June 28 at McLeod Athletic Park. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
