Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community is hosting a PGA Tour Canada qualifying tournament this week, May 5-9. Crown Isle is the home course of 2013 The Five member Riley Wheeldon.
This week’s event marks the last of three Q-Schools to earn status on PGA Tour Canada for 2014. Eighty-seven players have already earned status at sites in California and Florida, with another field of 132 players teeing it up this week. The top 18 players this week will be exempt on PGA Tour Canada for 2014, with the remainder of the top-40 plus ties earning conditional status.
Chilliwack’s Brad Clapp returns to the site of his 2012 PGA of Canada Championship win at Crown Isle this week, and some PGA Tour Canada veterans and up-and-comers will look to earn their spot on PGA TOUR Canada this season, with a mix of established names and fresh new faces in the field.
Chris Killmer – As The Players Cup Champion in 2012, Killmer has conditional status on PGA TOUR Canada this season but will look to improve his ranking with a solid week at Crown Isle.
James Love – The 2009 Tour Championship of Canada winner and former Web.com Tour member is looking to regain status after finishing outside the top 60 on the Order of Merit last season.
Ted Brown – The Peterborough native comes to PGA Tour Canada Q-School for the first time, looking to return to the Web.com Tour where he made 10 cuts in 24 starts in 2010.
Greg Machtaler – Machtaler captured the PGA of BC Championship last summer and will look to return to PGA TOUR Canada after playing from 2007-2010.
Also in the field this week are 2013 PGA TOUR Canada members Brad Boyle, Mitch Evanecz, Roger Furrer, Eric Hawerchuk, Nate McCoy and Kevin Stinson. Brett Stewart, son of former PGA TOUR Canada veteran Ray Stewart, is also in the field.
Twenty-two B.C. players are in the field, with Adam Nice (Campbell River) and Ryan Gugin (Victoria) flying the Vancouver Island colours.
Fifty-two Canadians from B.C., Ontario, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Saskatchewan will look to earn status on their home Tour this week, making up 39.4 per cent of the field. The field also includes 70 Americans and players from Australia, Norway, Japan, England, Switzerland and South Korea.
