The Nelson Rhythm Ropers celebrated their 20 anniversary with a stellar showing at the provincial rope skipping competition last weekend.
The team won 35 team medals and 21 individual medals Saturday and Sunday at L.V. Rogers, with a total of 135 athletes from around the province competing.
Kaylyn Allingham won the junior sportsmanship award while also finishing first in three individual categories. Amy Schellenberg, Maya Pierson, Nadine Lehr, Angelia Thomson, Emily Schellenberg, Michelle Oudemans, Brad Spurge, Kalina Spurge meanwhile qualified for nationals.
In team competitions:
The Caribbean Ropers 11-12 rookie crew of Kjerstin Turner, Christina Buffonge, Anje Turner and Carter Hobson took two firsts and one second in their three events.
The Rocket to Mars Ropers 11-12 rookie team of Braeden Allingham, Sophie Sukra, Thea Solarik, Carol Magalhaes and Rose Tessier won four firsts, two seconds and one third in their seven entries.
The 13-14 rookie team of Licorice Ropers consisted of Laura Tessier, Kaylyn Allingham and Isabel Sukra, with Rose Tessier. They entered nine events and placed first in five of them and second in four more.
The mainstream jumpers of H2o included Amy Schellenberg, Maya Pierson, Nadine Lehr and Angelia Thomson. They entered 10 events and had two firsts, five seconds and three thirds and took the overall medal for second.
The mainstream 18-29 team of Emily Schellenberg, Oudemans, Kalina Spurge and Bradley Spurge entered seven events and had five first-place finishes and two second-place finishes.
Sunday was the individual Master Events which includes a freestyle solo, a 30-second speed category, a three-minute speed for endurance and a timed multiple under event.
In freestyle, top-four finishes included: Carol Magalhaes (1st), Rose Tessier (2nd), Braeden Allingham (2nd), Brad Spurge (2nd), Maya Pierson (2nd), Emily Schellenberg (3rd), Isabel Sukra (3rd), Angelia Thomson (4th) and Kaylyn Allingham (4th).
In 30 sec speed, results included Kaylyn Allingham (1st), Rose Tessier (2nd), Braeden Allingham (2nd), Nadine Lehr (3rd), Maya Pierson (4th), and Laura Tessier (4th).
Three-minute speed-endurance saw victories for Kaylyn Allingham (1st), Braeden Allingham (1st), Isabel Sukra (3rd), Rose Tessier (4th) and Angelia Thomson (4th).
The power category included Kaylyn Allingham (1st), Rose Tessier (2nd), Braeden Allingham (2nd), Nadine Lehr (3rd) and Laura Tessier (4th).
