Pinnacles satisfy winning thirst with Slurpee Cup championship

Gilchrist and Company under-17 Pinnacles soccer team are Slurpee Cup champs after shutting out Shuswap 4-0 in the championship game. The Slurpee Cup was hosted by Kamloops last weekend.

The Penticton soccer team traveled to Kamloops last weekend and competed in the under-18 division and dominated its four games.

The first game was a 3-0 victory over Calgary Juventus. Superb defensive play by Gabby Levesque, Brianne Hrynyk, Shayna Lawrie, Carolyn Johnson and Emily Whitehead successfully shut down Calgary’s offense while Crystal Schuder, Amanda Chyzzy and Gabby Levesque scored. Their second game ended in a 5-0 win over Mission Terminators. Outstanding play by Jessie Olfert, Adra Greig, Melanie Girard and Allana Spooner in the midfield led the team. Lauren Antonovitch, Bryanne Francisco, Shannon Parker, Schuder, and Levesque netted goals. A 4-1 win over Kamloops put the Pinnacles into the finals on goals from Schuder with two and single tallies by Levesque and Chyzzy. Ellen Rutherford had a great game forcing numerous turnovers. The Pinnacles met their league rivals from Shuswap and dominated with a 4-0 win. Goal scorers were Schuder, Parker, Antonovitch and Spooner. Nikita Afonso had a great tournament collecting three shutouts and allowing only one goal. Game MVPs were handed out to Francisco, Greig, and Levesque with two. The Pinnacles remain undefeated in league play and have two games this weekend.
