The Nanaimo Pirates are used to winning close games, but this past weekend, they were sunk in extra innings.
The Hub City Paving Pirates baseball team (19-6) lost three out of four games, including two in extra innings, on Saturday and Sunday in Kelowna against the Okanagan Athletics.
The weekend began with promise as the Pirates scored four runs in the seventh inning to eke out a 7-6 victory. Luke Skingle was the winning pitcher in a complete game and Chris Faber was 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Joey Sabo added two RBI.
The second game saw the Pirates fall 5-4 in eight innings, with Crosby Rushton suffering the loss on the mound. Justin Clarkson was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Colby Morgan went 2-for-2.
Kenton Schroter suffered the loss Sunday morning in a 9-3 setback. Liam Goodall went 3-4 and Cody Andreychuk hit a single and a double.
In the finale, the Pirates lost 7-5 in 10 innings. Faber took the loss despite giving up just one earned run over five innings. Andreychuk had three RBI and Clarkson and Sabo had two hits each.
GAME ON … The Pirates play the Fraser Valley Chiefs on Saturday (June 18) at Serauxmen Stadium. Game times are noon and 2:30 p.m.
