Pirates play rival Blaze at stadium

The Nanaimo Hub City Paving Pirates are looking forward to a doubleheader this Saturday (June 1) at Serauxmen Stadium against the Blaze.

It’s starting to become a tradition that the best ball games of the year are the ones against the Langley Blaze.

So the Nanaimo Hub City Paving Pirates are looking forward to a doubleheader this Saturday (June 1) at Serauxmen Stadium against the Blaze.

The Pirates (12-11) are hot right now, winners of five of their last six B.C. Premier Baseball League games, and they’ll get to test themselves against top-tier teams all weekend at Serauxmen. Saturday’s games against the Blaze (24-4) will be followed by a doubleheader Sunday against the Abbotsford Cardinals (11-7).

The Pirates were supposed to play the Parksville Royals on Wednesday night at Serauxmen Stadium, but the game was rained out.

“And then we have the big weekend coming up,” said Doug Rogers, Pirates manager. “Two top teams so it will be a good test.”

GAME ON … The games against the Blaze are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., while the start times against the Cards are 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. … Admission at Pirates games is $5 per game, or $8 for a doubleheader.
