The Mid Island Pirates are a young team gaining experience, and this weekend they’ll get to experience series baseball.
The Pirates host the Okanagan Athletics for a four-game set in B.C. Premier Baseball League action on Saturday and Sunday (June 17-18) at Serauxmen Stadium.
Nanaimo is coming off a 5-2 road loss to the Victoria Eagles on the road Wednesday. Marcus Steen, Billy Ramwell and Drew Hnatyshyn each had two hits for the Pirates in that one.
Before that, the Mid Island Pirates swept up the North Delta Blue Jays on Sunday at Serauxmen Stadium, winning by scores of 8-4 and 5-2.
In the early game, the Pirates were led by Ben Munger who hit a single, a double and a triple. Hnatyshyn and Connor Caskenette had two hits each, Nolan Fothergil had two RBIs and Matt Galbraith was the winning pitcher.
In the rematch, Morley Scott had two RBIs and Josh Hill earned the win, giving up two hits and one run over five innings.
GAME ON … Saturday’s games are at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and the series continues Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
