The Cowichan Valley Mustangs pitchers were spectacular as their team earned a split against the Burnaby Braves in a midget AAA baseball doubleheader at Evans Park last Sunday.

Cole Anderson pitched a seven-inning complete game in the opener, striking out 10 while walking just one and allowing four hits, but still ended up with the loss as his teammates were equally stymied by the Burnaby pitching.

Brayden Radcliffe was 1-for-2 and brought home Kale Eddy in the bottom of the second for the Mustangs’ lone run. Eddy was also 1-for-2, while Tanner Cummings and Jayden Hamm were both 1-for-3.

Hamm’s arm and bat were both on fire in the second game, leading the way in a 7-0 Cowichan victory.

On the mound, Hamm struck out 10 Braves over six innings while walking two and allowing two hits. At the plate, Hamm went 3-for-3 and swatted a home run, finishing with three RBIs.

Nolan Fothergill pitched the seventh inning and walked one. Radcliffe was 2-for-3 with two runs, James McMahon was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Brandon Langer was 1-for-3, Cam LeSergent had two runs, and Cole Anderson scored once after reaching base when he was hit by a pitch.

Hamm has two of the Mustangs’ three homers this season, with Cam LeSergent adding the other.

The Mustangs play host to Richmond City this Saturday at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
