Juvenile championships

Maple Ridge’s Keanna Mason took second place at the B.C. Juvenile Championships, which wrapped up on Thursday in Courtenay.

Mason, a member of the Pitt Meadows Golf Club, shot 78-73-71-222 for plus six, just two shots behind winner Sumie Francois of Burnaby.

Mason, who hadn’t broke 40 on her front nine all week, did exactly what she needed to do to start her final day off, posting a respectable 1-over-par 37 to get her round going. She would break par on her back nine for the second day in a row with a 2-under-par 34 but would remain a hair shy of winner Francois for the win. Her final round 71 was the lowest score on the day in the girls’ division, tied with 15-year-old Alisha Lau of Richmond.

Fellow Pitt Meadows GC player Avril Li of Port Moody finished ninth with a score 238 for plus 22 at Crown Isle Resort.

On the boys’ side of the juvenile championship, Swan-e-set Bay member Henry Lee of Coquitlam finished tied for second with a score of 73-68-74-215 for minus one. Lee was the defending champion.

Pitt Meadows GC golfer Noah Guise of Port Moody shot 76-76-76-228 for plus 12, which had hit tied for 24th, and A.J., Ewart, playing above his age class, shot 75-75-79-229 for plus 13, tied for 26th.
