The Port Alberni Black Sheep are headed to the TC Cup championship after defeating Castaway Wanderers 46–34 in a Vancouver Island Rugby Union semifinal at home last Saturday.
“We were a little disjointed on and off,” head coach Jas Purewal said. “If we could execute a little more we could get good possession.”
Offensive penalties slowed the game for the Sheep—something the team will have to work on for the final, he said.
“The forwards had a good day. We dominated the scrums. Cody McClary, Riley Savard and Dane Dentoom kept CW under a ton of pressure.”
The Nanaimo Hornets beat Westshore 55–17 in the other semifinal. Because the Hornets beat the Black Sheep twice this year, Nanaimo gets to host the final.
“We had a really good balance of scorers,” Purewal said, with tries from Bob Brown, Anthony Selva, Ty Shannon, Troy Dhillon and Asaeli Rokotuiwakaya. Jordan Kurucz kicked five conversions and two penalty kicks.
SCRUM NOTES…Saturday’s TC Cup final will kick off in Nanaimo at 1 p.m….The Hornets are undefeated at 9–0.
