PARKSVILLE – Port Alberni runner Royd Burkart repeated last year’s win at the Oceanside 10K race in Parksville Sunday.
He completed the course in well under 40 minutes (watch The News for more race results and times). He won last year’s event as well – in the rain. This weekend, the weather was much better – sunny, but cool, good racing conditions, he said afterwards.
Bukart was followed by Duncan runner Richard Light and in third place was Victoria’s Kashi Tanaka.
The first female across the finish line was Nanaimo runner Jane Campbell-Arnold. She said after the race that it was a little tougher than she thought, with some gravel sections.
The event also saw Victoria barefoot runner Glenn Jasechko put up a good time. Jasechko was in his fifth race, running barefoot. He used a pair of light sandals in the more gravelly sections of the Oceanside 10K. Watch The News on Tuesday for more about barefoot running.
The event had a good turnout, and proceeds from the race were donated to the Arrowsmith Search and Rescue organization.
