Cayden Smood of Port Alberni had the skate of his life tonight at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Smood was chosen to be the ‘seventh man’ in the Vancouver Canucks’ lineup prior to the team’s National Hockey League matchup against the New Jersey Devils on Friday, March 15.
Smood, who plays with the Atom Knights in the Alberni Valley Minor Hockey Association, was chosen through a program the Canucks run during their regular hockey season. He carried the Canucks’ flag around the arena prior to the team being introduced at the beginning of the game, and got to line up with the Canucks’ starting lineup on the ice for the national anthems.
Smood is a diehard Vancouver Canucks’ fan, so this was a trip of a lifetime for him.
While we try to stay impartial, this event is pretty special to those of us who work at the Alberni Valley News: Cayden’s mother, Heather Milligan, is a co-worker. We’re proud of Cayden!
