The Cowichan Outlaws came as close as they have in any game this year to earning their first win of the Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association Div. 2 season, but had to settle for a 1-0 loss to Saanich Celosen at Tsartlip School last Sunday.
Cowichan hit the post once in the first half and grazed the post on four other occasions. The Outlaws pressed hard for the win in the second half, but couldn’t bury the ball. Saanich scored after getting a dead ball foul 35 yards out, shooting the ball just over the Cowichan keeper and under the bar.
“The team did very well only allowing one goal,” coach Jules Nagy said. “this team has something a coach cannot coach: it is called heart and grit, and this group has it. [I’m] very proud of them.”
The Outlaws will play at home against Gorge FC at Evans Park this Sunday at noon.
Also in the LIWSA, the Over 30A Cowichan Cougars had their game against Gorge postponed last weekend. They will play host to Castaways at Evans Park this Sunday at 10 a.m.
