The Nanaimo Pirates’ longest road trip of the season probably felt longer on the way back, after the team was swept.
The Hub City Paving Pirates lost all four games in Kelowna this past weekend against the Okanagan Athletics. Nanaimo lost 5-3 and 8-3 on Saturday, then fell 7-3 and 4-1 on Sunday.
The Pirates were close in a couple of the contests, including the series opener in which they outhit the A’s 8-6. Garrett Goodall and Ryan Stich had two hits apiece.
The second game had one highlight for the visitors, as Matt Skingle hit a home run and finished 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs.
In Sunday’s early game, Goodall was 2-for-2 with two doubles.
In the series finale, the game was 0-0 most of the way through, the Pirates went ahead 1-0 in the sixth inning, but then lost it in the top of the seventh. Goodall hit a single and a triple to again lead the offence, while Noah Banman was 2-for-2.
The Pirates also suffered a shutout road loss to the Parksville Royals last Wednesday.
GAME ON … Nanaimo will try to get back in the win column with a game against the Victoria Eagles this Wednesday (June 22) at 6:30 p.m. at Serauxmen Stadium.
