The President’s Cup ran last Thursday and Sunday at the Smithers Golf and Country Club, with golfers finishing their last round under clear, sunny skies.
When all the score cards were tallied, Gord Young was the winner of this year’s cup. Young said he played well for a tournament, where pressures are higher than a normal day of golf.
“Today I was really solid off the tee, and when you’re solid off the tee it gives you a better chance at a solid second shot,” he said.
Young said playing with a crowd of golfers that all know each other is a great way to play a tournament.
“They’re trying to win as much as you are, but you encourage each other. It’s a really good atmosphere,” he said.
Young had the best Overall Low Gross with 152. Rick Malkow had the best Overall Low Net with 138.
First Low Gross was Steve Kerbrat with 153, followed by Wilf Taekema with 154, Tanner Olson in third with 160, Nickie Scholtz with 161, and Dana Atagi in fifth with 165.
Larry Steinke finished with First Low Net at 138, with Tim Veenstra in second at 140, Malcolm McMillan in third with 140, Larry Lutz in fourth with 140 and Ian Smythe in fifth with 141.
