Tate Priebe and Matthew Winn of the Vernon Kokanee each pocketed three medals at the B.C. AA Long Course Swim Championships past weekend in Victoria.
Priebe made four boys 13 and under provincial AAA standards to qualify for the B.C. AAA meet, July 2-6, in Victoria. The Kokanees took a dozen medals.
He struck gold in the 100-metre backstrokel in one minute and 15.46 seconds, silver in the 200 backstroke (personal best 2:42.64), silver in the 100 free (PB 1:05.68) and bronze in the 50 free with a personal best 29.89.
Winn also qualifed for the provincial long course AAA finals by garnering silver medals in the 200 (3:03.23) and 100 fly events and a bronze in the 50 free (PB 29.89) in boys 12-13. He also made his second B.C. AAA standard in the 1,500 free, in a PB 20:45.
Nicholas Phillips bagged bronze in the 200 individual medley with a PB 2:48.28.
On the girls’ side, Samantha Short won silver in the girls 11 and under 400 IM with a PB 6:47.99, while Morgan Mardiros earned silver in the girls 12-13 category 200 free in 2:27.77.
Jaaiah Ward collected bronze in the 200 back with a PB 2:43.38, earning her first 13 and under B.C. AAA standard.
The Kokanee boys 12 and under relay team of Phillips, Braden Kersey, Winn and Graham Johnstone won gold medals in the 200 free (2:13.23) and 200 IM (2:33.34), both personal bests.
