The Cowichan Valley Capitals have added a pair of Princeton University commits to their stable of players for the 2021-22 B.C. Hockey League season.
Forward David Jacobs and defenceman Nick Marciano, who have both accepted scholarships to play with the Tigers in 2022-23, will spend next season with the Caps as they prepare for their college careers.
Jacobs is a right-shooting winger from Needham, Massachusetts, checking in at 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds. He played three seasons at Noble & Greenough School in Dedham, Mass., compiling 86 points (25 goals and 61 assists) in 84 games, including 45 points (15 goals and 30 assists) in 27 games in 2019-20, the most recent season he played. Jacobs will turn 20 this September.
“David is an offensive forward with high-level playmaking abilities and great vision with and without the puck,” Capitals head coach and general manager Brian Passmore said. “He can finish around the net and will be a great asset for us up front and at even strength. We’re excited to have David on our team next year.”
Marciano is a left-shooting blueliner from Greenwich, Connecticut who turned 19 on May 19 and checks in at 6-foot-2 and 194 pounds. He played two seasons at the Kent School in Connecticut, posting 23 points in 26 games in 2019-20 and a combined 28 points in 53 games over two years. With no high school hockey this past season, he played four games with the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League.
“Nick is a smooth-skating and puck-moving defenceman,” Passmore said. “He gets up in the rush and is a good threat offensively. He picks his spots well and is responsible defensively. Nick reads the play and is quick reacting with a good stick. A big body that likes to use his size to his advantage. Nick will help on special teams and brings all the intangibles that we look for in building this team moving forward.”
Jacobs and Marciano join previously announced commits Zachary Brault (02 D, Shawnigan Lake School), Maguire Ratzlaff (03 F, Shawnigan Lake School), Chase Ramsay (03 D, Mid Fairfield Rangers), Sebastian Hamming (03 D, St. George’s School) and Luke Haymes (03 F, Ridley College).
