Two lucky Princeton hockey players got a chance to learn from the pros at the Canucks First Strides program in Vancouver.

Minor hockey players Curtis Gould and Mason O’Neil learned the first steps to becoming accomplished athletes as well as good people.

Seventy-two initiation and novice participants came from across B.C., including Vancouver Island and 100 Mile House, to skate in Rogers Arena.

The boys learned during off-ice sessions, as well as skating and puck-handling on the ice. The lessons emphasized fair play and team work.

The Canuck’s mascot Fin and players Cody Hodgson and David Booth helped out with drills and games.

But the special event wasn’t just for the kids.

Parents participated in a workshop that dealt with the role they play in minor hockey and how to support their children.
