Oceanside’s Peewee Reds prospects team is off to a great start.

In action up at Springwood Old last Sunday for a double header against the Tyees from Campbell River played out under sunny skies, the Reds rolled out an 11-4 win in the opener then came from behind to take game two 9-8 and extended their record to 4-0.

“That’s a very strong group this year,” Oceanside Minor Baseball president Mike Parlow said of the crop of 11 and 12 year olds, pointing out “they have shown great power at the plate with a bushel of home runs contributing to their undefeated record.”

In their first four games the Reds have outscored their opposition 46-22.

On Sunday Kieran Bowles went 6-for-7 over the two games for seven RBI’s and a homer. Brandon Nicoll also went hard in the last inning of game two to help pull the win out of the fire.

Nicoll, Griffin Mallicoat, Ethan Christensen and Isaac Laraque-Wall “all had good days on the mound.”

This is the second year Vancouver Island minor baseball associations have fielded prospects teams, which are put together in preparation for the rep ball season which starts the end of June.

GAME ON

The Reds are back home this Sunday for a double header against the Comox Cardinals. Game one goes high noon.
