The 13th Annual Christmas Madness Adult 3-on-3 Hockey Tournament wrapped up on Dec. 29, with the Puck Hogs being the winners after beating the Iceaholics in a heavy scoring final.
“The tournament turned out really well actually,” said Laura Albert, the organizer, adding that she was surprised the Puck Hogs, being a new team in the tournament, won it all.
The Puck Hogs used to be Morningwood – a regular team in 100 Mile House-based hockey tournaments – and have a good chunk of Morningwood players on the team still.
“I think everything went smooth this year, it usually does. Over the last few years that I’ve had it, I haven’t had any bumps on the road.”
Albert said her favourite thing about the tournament was watching all the players coming back home for Christmas and being able to play some puck together.
Atoine Archie of the Canim Lake Lakers echoed this.
“Catching up with friends and family, skating together having some fun, shooting the breeze and play some puck together. Whether we win or lose, it’s just fun to come here,” Archie described his reasons for coming to play.
Originally from Canim Lake, Archie now lives in Surrey and has played in the Christmas Madness tournament for five years for the Canim Lake Lakers.
“We came in third,” he said of his team’s performance this year. “We had a short bench so we did pretty good, only lost by one [goal] the last two games.”
