The Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club was selected by Bowls Canada to host this year’s National Mixed Pairs Lawn Bowling Championshps.
The event will be held Sept. 11-15 and will give Parksville Qualicum Beach an opportunity to watch high-level lawn bowling without having to travel far.
The club is inviting the public to come out and enjoy the games.
Opening ceremonies will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. when local dignitaries, bowling officials, players and coaches from across Canada, plus flag bearers will be accompanied onto the green by a piper and welcomed by the town crier. Following speeches and songs from the choir, there will be a welcoming banquet at 7 p.m. in the QBLBC clubhouse.
Games begin on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. There will be three games every day from Sept. 12 to Friday, Sept. 14 at 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. with tie-breakers (if necessary) and gold, silver and bronze medal games on Saturday, Sept. 15.
“We’re going to make this a memorable tournament,” said the club’s publicity officer Meryl Yates.
“Thanks to our amazing grounds crew, our lawns and gardens are in great shape despite this very hot summer, our kitchen crew is ready to provide refreshments throughout the tournament, plus our members can’t wait to welcome the players and coaches from other provinces and will do all they can to make their visit enjoyable.”
Admission to the playoffs and the medal games is free. There is parking, accessible washrooms, refreshments, merchandise and souvenir program on sale, plus volunteers.
The club’s location is on 665 Jones St., Qualicum Beach next to Ravensong pool.
