The Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club held their first open tournament of the year over the weekend.

A mixed fours tournament with teams from Courtenay, Nanaimo, Parksville and of course hosts Qualicum Beach.

Two teams even came from Victoria.

The Qualicum Beach teams didn’t take the top spots but Cor and Helena Poland, Pam Coward and Joe Fairhurst placed fourth.

“We played through sunshine and rain but the weekend provided some keen competition, no team won all their games and in fact we had many tie games throughout the two day event which attests to the caliber of bowling,” said club publicity coordinator Jane Nielsen.

The Kelly team bowled consistently for a well deserved win.

Sponsored by The McPherson Group, “Glen and his associates were on hand to present the trophy and door prizes they donated,” Neilsen said.

First —  Pat and Gwen Kelly,  Patti Barrow and John Larner (Parksville).

Second — Brenda and Wayne Edwards, Gerry and Marion Whitney (Parksville).

Third — Vern Greenhill, Mellie Ursulom (Courtenay) Rick Quibell and Mary Mulligan (Nanaimo).
