Members of the Quesnel River Archers won nine medals at the 2018 BC Archery Outdoor provincials in Prince George this weekend (Aug. 31 – Sept. 2).
Forty seven athletes competed in the three day event at the Silver Tips Archer’s Club over the labour day weekend.
“We had a great event,” says Lora-Lee Murray, who won a gold in Senior Women’s Barebow, “It was a huge success and the athletes had lots of fun shooting with athletes from different clubs and meeting new friends.”
Murray’s daughter, Kelly was another winner, claiming a bronze in Junior Women’s Recurve.

Mckayla Bolitho took home gold in Cub Female Recurve, Dale Chapplow won silver in Master Men’s Recurve, Diana Freel got a gold in Master Woman’s Compound, Spence Gamache came on top for Junior Men’s Compound, Cathy Schaffer scored gold in Master Woman’s Recurve, Emerie Watson won gold in Cadet Women’s Compound and Scott Watson won top spot for Senior Men’s Recurve too.
The only Quesnel archer who didn’t bring home hardware was Tony Wyssen but he is probably happy for his team mates regardless.
On Friday, during the practice round several Quesnel athletes chose to participate in an additional 720 round, the scores of which will be used to rank athletes nationally.

Murray says on Saturday they shot a 720 round in the morning and an elimination round in the afternoon.
“The elimination round consisted of athletes from the 720 round being paired off based on their morning scores and then competing against other teams,” she says.
“[It] was a fun event that the committee was trialing this year with hopes that it would become a regular part of outdoor provincials. “Sunday was a field round consisting of 24 targets positioned among the trees of the PG facility.”
She says they were lucky the rain and bad weather held off for the majority of the weekend, so they were able to shoot in excellent conditions.
