Wax your skis and strap into your boots, as the Hallis Lake Ski Centre will opened for the season Saturday, Dec. 12.
The entire trail network isn’t able to open, with the Cariboo Ski Touring Club calling conditions “fair to poor.”
The club suggests skiers stick to Katimivik, Stadium and hills, Biathlon, Black hole and Gerry’s Choice, taking the bypass to the 2.5 hill before conditions improve.
The centre’s lodge and rental shop will be open Wednesday to Sunday. Regular hours will see the lodge open from noon until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. all other days. From Dec. 16 until Jan. 3, the lodge will be operating on holiday hours, open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. every day.
Pandemic restrictions are in effect at the lodge.
The lodge, when open, is only for emergencies and to access rentals, and people are asked not to loiter. There are outhouses to the south of the lodge, and people are asked to use their vehicles for changing and for warming up if needed.
Skiers are asked to maintain three meters of distance from anyone outside their household or wear a mask when this is unavoidable. Ski racks at the lodge are spaced, and each household should use a separate rack.
A live weather feed of the stadium at Hallis Lake is available on the club’s website at caribooski.ca.
