Another season is in the books for the Quesnel Ladies Golf Club, so a final tournament and some recognition for the players was in order.
The ladies played its Club Championship in the cold and rain on the weekend of Sept. 15-16 and then had a much warmer, drier wind-up dinner a couple days later.
Eighteen of the club’s 45 members played in the two-day tournament, with former captain Kit Collins taking the Low Gross award for the third time.
“I’m getting up there,” she said modestly, “so it was nice to get the win. I’m one of the lucky ones, as I get to golf in the winter in Arizona and Nevada, so I try to keep my game sharp.”
She had some praise for current captain Mary Braithwaite, who had an incredible season to win most improved.
“She dropped eight strokes from her game!” Collins exclaimed, emphasizing how impressive the feat is: “No one drops eight strokes in a year.”
Collins says Braithwaite had shoulder surgery recently, got in tip-top shape and then took some lessons with golf pro Kathy Gook.
Overall, Collins said the season was great.
“We have a nice ladies club,” she said. “It’s not all about the one person. The club is pretty full of neat events and it’s a pretty full day when we play on Tuesdays.”
