While the sun may be shining, and the temperature may be soaring, Quesnel and District Minor Hockey (QDMH) is already anticipating a return to the rinks next fall.
They’re putting a call out for coaches and other volunteers to sign up as soon as possible.
“As kids move on, people move away from town, we’re always looking to fill those roles,” QDMH communications officer Carlos Gonzalez said. “They’re critical. Without coaches, nothing can happen.”

Those interested in coaching should reach out through the QDMH’s website, qdmha.com. The group is also looking for assistant coaches, team managers, and even a treasurer for their board.
Hockey season could start as soon as September, which is only three months away.
“No one’s really thinking about ice right now,” Gonzalez said. “If you’re thinking ‘yeah, I can volunteer next season,’ put your name forward, and we’ll take care of the rest.”
New coaches will need to take online courses, with the costs reimbursed by the QDMH. Hockey could prove more fun for both kids and coaches this year, with COVID-19 preventing games for the majority of the season in 2020/2021.
“If everything goes well, games are guaranteed,” Gonzalez said. “It’s just normal. Travel and out of town tournaments.”
